The Beginning of Human Reproduction:
1. A single cell forms from one egg and one sperm cell = a Zygote cell
****this happens in the fallopian tube of the female
2. Fertilization or conception is the union or combination success of male and female sex cells.
a. Male = X cell from egg and Y cell from sperm cell = XY
b. Female = X cell from egg and X cell from sperm cell = XX
3. Implantation = new zygote will plant itself into to wall of female's uterus within a few days of life.

4. Fetus = somewhere between the 7th and 8th week of pregnancy the living cluster of cells form a FETUS and it starts to develop from this 2nd-month into 9 months / before birth.
This is known as 1st-Trimester = 8-12 week old fetus/ they are aborted as you know.
2nd Trimester = 3rd-6th month of life
3rd Trimester = 7th-9th month of life-------then BIRTH
5. Amniotic sac = thin, fluid-filled membrane that surrunds and protects the embryo/ fetus
6. Umbilical cord = ropelike structure that connects and nourishes the fetus with the placenta.
7. Placenta = thick/ blood-rich tissue that lines the walls of the uterus and is "place or house" for fetus to live and grow.
****If a pregnant female uses tobacco, alcohol, and drugs it will feed the fetus through umbilical cord.
*** Said story of a teacher- friend of Mr. Myrtue ***

A Healthy Pregnancy:
1. regular doctor visits
2. needed nutrients in diet:
( calcium, protein, iron, vitamin A,
Vitamin B, folic acids, ,,, )
3. Watch your weight gain/
overweight is not good/ only about 25-35 lbs more of weight gain.
-------------------------------------------------
Some women never again in their
life are able to loose back some
of weight they had "before babies" .
-------------------------------------------------
4. Maintain fitness and exercise
5. Avoid tobacco
---- 30% of low birth weight babies come from smoker Moms.
----also affects mental development of fetus/baby
----might cause pre-mature births
or a miscarriage or a stillbirth.
-------------------------------------------------
S.I.D.S. =
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
*** after a baby is born, within the
first year of life, suddenly the baby
dies during sleep
-------------------------------------------------
Miscarriage =
During the 1st or 2nd--trimester
the Mother loosed her "baby"
-------------------------------------------------
Still Birth =
During the 3rd-trimester or at the very time of birth------ the baby is not alive anymore
-------------------------------------------------
6. Avoid alcohol -
F.A.C. = fetal alcohol syndrome
Affects baby and will have severe mental and physical problems.
7. Avoid drugs --- "crack babies"
There are terrible situations when a baby is born and the mother is a drug user and its affects newborn.
8. Avoid STD's------
Babies born with an STD =
might die after birth
***some babies are born - BLIND-
because Mom has an S.T.D.
-------------------------------------------------
9. From all examples above----- how is this connected to nursing a baby?

Childbirth: part two :
*** No this for your test !!!!!
Final steps
1. Her cervix starts to open wider
and dilates
There is muscular contractions in
her uterus
2. She is going into labor ( 3-12 hrs )
*** Her water breaks ***
a. Naturally or with help of doctor
b. When water breaks-----
WHAT IS HAPPENING GIRLS ???
3. As cervix is dilating ( 4 ") the fetus starts to move down vaginal canal
4. Delivery = baby passes through birth canal of vagina as it opens.
( you start to see the head in canal )
5. Birth -------- human always need
a little help in getting "head out"
***the baby will cry and first breath is to remove fluid of amniotic fluid
( have you seen baby animals born? )
6. Last step is to remove the umbilical cord / cut

Below is a picture of a breech birth :
C- SECTION -or Natural--DELIVERY :
Pros and Cons:
Natural Birth:
1. Takes several hours and is painful
2. Does allow the Mom to breast-
feed baby and bond with it soon after birth
3. Mom gets to go home same day or
no longer than one day later
4. There is no or little meds used, so
the Mom has little after-affects
5. There is some damage and bruise
to her pelvis and uterus/ pain
6. Her anus and vagina is in pain too
C - Section Delivery
1. Common for twins or triplets
2. Common if Mom is small or has
small pelvis (hips )
3. Common if the baby is BIG and
Mom is small
**** this might be due to Mom = a
small lady and Dad = a big man
4. If Mom's first born is C - section,
usually other babies will be too !
5. If Mom's health is not good---
C - Section is common ( diabetic, obese, high blood pressure, poor fitness, ,,, )
6. She will have to stay in hospital
for 2-4 more days
7. She is under anesthesia/ meds,
so she will have a lot of side-effects
( headaches, longer soreness, bladder infections, and a SCAR )
8. MOM can not hold and have baby right away because she is still coming out of surgery and not awake yet.
( she does not see the birth of baby )
